The light meter and color meter for photo and video are a must have photo tools.

Light meters (also known as exposure meters) and color meters are available in different models designed to comply specific needs.

Light meter
This kind of instrument is specifically designed to measure the quantity of light you have available on your set. You’ll never have to guess the right exposure!

All the light meters can measure incident light but only some of them are able to measure flash light. The most sophisticated light meters include a radio trigger/remote that let you fire the flash simply pressing the measurement push-button. In some case you can even adjust the flash power directly straight from the light meter.
Some light meter can also measure the reflective light. On order to do so you have to switch the measurement mode or add a dedicated viewfinder for spot light measurement

Color meter
Nowadays we should speak about Spectrometers. Indeed those instruments can measure color temperature and can perform a full light source spectral analysys. Thanks to our instruments you can verify indexes like the CRI or the TLCI and you can easily match different light sources choosing the right filter gel or setting the XY coordinates in your light panel

Among these is a flash analyzing function that uses ambient and flash simultaneously to allow for shooters to dial in their preferred mix. Also, using the included Data Transfer Software users will be able to do Exposure Profiling for their camera by using the optional 5° viewfinder, showing dynamic range limits and knowing that you will have an accurate exposure. Alongside this is a Filtration Compensation Mode that allows for the meter to account for filter factor, which can now be done at up to 12 EV for landscape shooters using high-density ND filters. Other features include a contrast function for comparing brightness, a memory mode for 9 readings, and illuminance or luminance measurement.

A 25-zone target that gathers more information about the camera exposure characteristics of the previous target. It consists of two parts: An 18% gray card used for custom gray (white) pre-profiling digital balance cameras, a target profile consisting of a central 18% gray element surrounded by 24 areas arranged at 1/6 stop values from the brightest to the darkest. Target II exposure is faster, the most accurate test as it only takes three shots to collect a wide range of exposure data from the camera’s imaging system. The first shot is taken at the normal measured exposure determined by a Sekonic L-758DR. The second shot is made at -3EV below the measured exposure and the third shot at 3EV above the measured exposure. Target II exposure is fully compatible with free data transfer software and L-758DR and L-758Cine exposure meters to profile camera and lens combinations. The result is the accuracy of the total exposure.
