Led Monolights are a very efficient and versatile light source for photography and videography.
The light source is a COB LED (Chip On Board LED) suitable to produce a flood light. You can shape the light using reflectors, softboxes, barndoors and focusing lenses or Fresnel lenses.
In many cases the light source has a bayonet “Bowens compatible” but in some cases they can have a custom bayonet. You have to pay attention to that because it will affect the kind of accesories you will be able to use.
Due to the nature of COB LED very often LED Monolights are not able to change the color temperature but you will be always able to dim the light power. Anyhow the modern technology is able to produce some monolights with a variable color temperature. If you need this feature please check carefully if it is implemented or not in the choosen product.
One more characteristic you have to consider is the portability. Nearly all LED lights can be battery operated. You can have a monolight with external batteries or an integrated battery. We suggest you to think about your daily use since high power LEDs drains a lot of energy and may need big and expensive batteries.
